August 31, 2005—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a
recall of 300,000 cans of Stand 'n Seal "Spray-On" Grout Sealer. As of that date, the CPSC reported that
88 consumers had reported adverse reactions after using the product, including at least 28 reports of overexposure
resulting in respiratory problems.
Because many serious adverse events go unreported to the CPSC, the actual number of people harmed by exposure
to this product is much higher.
Stand 'n Seal is associated with several life-threatening and life-altering conditions, including Reactive Airway Dysfunction
Syndrome (RADS), chemical pneumonitis, and obliterated bronchitis.
In April 2005, Home Depot became the exclusive seller of Stand 'n Seal "Spray-On" Grout Sealer. The product
was distributed by Tile Perfect, a division of Roanoke Companies Group, Inc. |
